During two conferences, on the 14th and 15th of December, 2015, Doña Paula Winerypresented the 2nd Argentine Terroir Workshop in the City of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This event that included international guests was held in Pullman Ibirapuera Hotel in Vila Mariana and it had an educational purpose: we intended to educate the palate according to the argentine terroirs, to recognize their geographical characteristics, to talk about the influence of the soils, altitude and latitude and, above all, to form a knowledge base about this topic that contributes to position the argentine wines among the terroir wines of the world.

The guests were wine journalists, gastronomic press and recognized sommeliers from Argentina, Brazil and Latin America.

The speakers were Tim Atkin MW (who has visited Argentina more than ten times and writes the annual argentine wines report with more than 700 labels), Dirceu Vianna Jr. MW (main referent of Brazil’s wine industry and the only Master Wine from Brazil), Andrés Rosberg(president of the Argentine Association of Sommeliers), Carlos Cabral (Consultant and writer), Marcos Fernández (main Enologist of Doña Paula) and Martín Kaiser (Agricultural producer of Doña Paula).

The dissertations were followed around the world through online videos which were available in Doña Paula’s YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/donapaulawines). It was recorded by prestigious professionals who achieved a rapid and full transmission. In this way the event was instantly covered which facilitated followers to see it on the social networks like Facebook, Twiter and Instagram through #ArgentineTerroirWorkshop.

During the first day, the first seminar from a series of five was carried out in which there was an introduction to the concept of blends and terroir in Argentina, followed by a dinner at Praca Sao Lourenco restaurant, where three recognized labels from the winery were tasted: Doña Paula Savage Blanc, Doña Paula Estate Riesling and Doña Paula Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Through the seminars there was a striking presence of wines from different parts of Argentina (from Salta to the Patagonia including 9 Argentine wineries) as well as Chilean, Brazilian and European. This comes along with the generosity and the open mindedness with which the event was planned from its first edition. Another fundamental principle respected once more this year was the significance of the guests, selected among the most relevant from the most prestigious media in Latin America and Brazil. Their participation during the Q&A was a great support to the ideas expressed by the speakers.

At the end, the journalists were able to ask questions directly to the speakers of the event followed by a dinner in Dalva e Dito restaurant, one of the culinary jewels from Alex Atala collection, who impressed the participants by addressing some welcoming words. At this time the guests were received with a cocktail made with Doña Paula Riesling, called Riesling Sour; later on every step of the dinner would be paired with Doña Paula Estate Torrontés, Doña Paula Selección de Bodega and, finally, Doña Paula Alluvia Parcel.

To summarize, the 2nd Argentine Terroir Workshop organized by Doña Paula was an excellent occasion to continue with what started a year ago in Mendoza, in which both speakers and participants, and also organizers could appreciate the importance of these type of events and how much they contribute to the spread and understanding of new trends in the wine industry and the international markets which they intend to tap.
