In a recent lunch for the press, Doña Paula presented the 2015 vintage of its icon wine, Selección de Bodega, at the recently opened Orilla restaurant in Buenos Aires. The most influential journalists and wine critics of the capital enjoyed a vertical tasting from the 2012 to the 2015 vintage (currently in the market), and were able to taste the 2016 vintage that is already being elaborated.
The winemaking team, headed by winemaker Marcos Fernández and Agronomist Martín Kaiser, comments that the 2015 harvest marked a turning point in this wine’s elaboration, as from this vintage it is made 100% with grapes from the Alluvia estate, located in one of Gualtallary’s top areas (Tupuntago, Uco Valley), at 1,350 m.a.s.l.
Selección de Bodega 2015 is a complex Wine, of intense deep black color with violet hints. Aromas of black and red fruits together with mineral aromas reminiscent of chalk and graphite. It presents great structure in the palate, accompanied by a pleasant freshness that results from a balanced acidity. With firm and juicy tannins, it has a very persistent finish. This Malbec, made according to the highest quality standards, has all the elegance that allows it to drink immediately, and at the same time, permits a prolonged cellaring.
From a detailed investigation work, Marcos Fernández and Martín Kaiser have focused in the last years to analyze the climate and soil influence in Malbec. After this investigation, they have concluded that the Alluvia estate produces world-class wines. Thanks to its stony soils with medium sized alluvial rocks and calcium carbonate hints with calcareous inlays, together with a fresh climate, the Doña Paula winemaking team has achieved a true reflection of Gualtallary in the 2015 vintage of Selección de Bodega.
